Hi i am the proud owner of a 2003 hardtop jimny, i've had it for round about a year now. i love my jimny but i am faced with an unfortunate dilemma, you see i love everything about a jimny just it needs more goooooo to it (i know there are multiple forums out there similar to this)

I need some more experinced jimny owners help, i have a budget of round about £3000 and i have the options of eiter:

  • Buy a new higher powerd road going car
  • swap the eninge out
  • turbo the standard engine

  • i don't want to have to get a 'car' but i need more power, also stability is a problem. i don't do to much in the way of off roading, i got a decent set of mud tyres on it and they have got me anywhere ive needed to go so far so off road mods are not needed.

wider axles or just some spacers and some fat boy rims with some stiffer dampers will sort the stability out i hope, but any insight would help.

I have use of a fully equipped garage to carry out any work that i do, so basiclly what have you guys seen done to jimnys to up the power.

    thanks

I'm not a fan of wide tyres on a Jimny, I would stick with a narrower tyre and use offset rims to get the extra track. Maybe go to a 16" rim with a lower profile tyre to reduce unsprung weight. Why do you need more power? have you checked the compression to make sure that your current engine is good? what size tyres d you currently have? Is it an M13A engine or G13BB?

yeah the bigger and offset rims seem like a good idea, im not keen on the alloy look, that's why i have my current steelies powder coated :) Look proper nice.

im running some 195/70 15's at the moment

With regards to the power, just want it to pull more through the gears, low is no problem but in high its as if there's nothing there before 4000 RPM, i have the M13A engine the ratio is 9:5:1 which would be suitable for a turbo?

The M15 engine would be the simplest option.

    A 2003 Hardtop will be a M13 engine

The M16 Liana block would be best, or even better a M18 if you can import one.

Rhinoman isn't the M15 only found in the ignis as a vvt on 05+ models?

I think the M16 i have will perform awesome with a decent manifold and exhaust system, this is my next mod as I have a sweet M16 in my jimny :D
