I found that if you buy gearbox oil in the 1l plastic bottles with a long pourer built into the cap, you can just fit them up beside the gearbox and get it in straight from the bottle.

I Have just done this yesterday. And found the plug a bit of a tight sod to get at. Looking from the front of the car the Filler level plug is on the right hand side of the gearbox. it a bit tight to the Tunnel but I found the best way to undue it was to use a 3/8 ratchet. Fits right in the plug. basically if oil comes out when you unscrew the plug its OK. if like me you need to top it up then you either need a long bit of pipe put this in the filler hole and feed the pipe up in to the bonnet compartment then feed the oil down the pipe from Topside. using the small oil top up bottles as they have the spout that fits inside the pipe. this works well but you will need to take care as to not over fill the Box. As soon as you take the pipe out .Out comes the oil .Just catch the excess in a Bowl and when it stops it has found its Level. Just make sure the car is on a level surface when doing this. I was lucky enough to have a 4 post car Ramp.

I use a bent piece of coathanger bent to the shape of a cut down U or L to check the levels in things like this and diffs. You can get to the full level without waste. ;)
