choosing a suitable winch was created by jimny-bob
Hi all

I am starting to look at a winch but dont want to permanent mount in on the front.
Due to this and the lightweight of a jimny I dont feel I need a winch like what sone people have! Ie weighs over 40kgs and would pull a landy out that is stuck upto its sills in mud.

I only do a bit of greenlaning so its just a back up. As a guide I have been looking at
Superwinch 4000lbs or a superwinch 5000lbs.

Seems expensive for occasional use buddy, you can get more powerfull budget winches for alot less. If your not doing comps and winching yourself miles a cheap ebay job would be fine I recon.

Think I found a 8000lb winch on ebay for 200quid, winch plate from ora is 80quid so still cheaper than the superwinch 5000.

Forget about those tiny cheap winches. You'll end up regretting sooner or later.

At minimum, get a 6500lb winch. But I really recommend you getting a Goodwinch TDS either 8.5c or 9.5c.

What kind of money do you want to spend?

Not at all

It's just that it probably is the best budget which there is, and also with great service. Also because of all the upgrades you can get for this winch.
