Winch electronics help was created by jimnydms
I have recently just got my new goodwinch TDS 9.5 with synthetic rope :-)

Just some advice really I have the HD ORA winch bumper so need to mount the power box externally probably under the bonnet in a waterproof box. The current motor is using solid flat copper connectors. Is it just a case of swapping them for 6mm2 flexible cable with O ring connectors each end?

See pics maybe I ll make more sense lol

Typo I meant 60mm2. Have looked on eBay and 60mm2 is expensive stuff if anyone knows where I can get cable from and relevant connecters

50mm2 is plenty!

You can get the cable from vehicle wiring products and the connectors too, however the connectors need a big crimping tool which is expensive to buy. I'm lucky as my father in law has the crimping tool, so I just pop over to his workshop to use it.

Companies like Devon 4x4 may make them up to length for you with the connectors on. There are others like Winch Solutions too.

Goodwinch may do it also if you tell them how long the cables need to be.

When you undo the connectors on the motor, hold the bottom nut with a spanner to stop it spinning or it will twist and break the connector in the motor.

Or if you have a blow torch, solder the cable to the connectors. Just as good if not better than crimping.

I would personally use 50mm2 as kirkynut mentions. But since the cables that comes with the winch are only 35mm2, that would also be okay. But 50mm2 is preferable, also if you want to upgrade your winch motor one day :)

Thanks guys I may ring goodwinch up. So the ends have to be soldered with a blow torch rather than a soldering iron ok cool didn't know that but how do you know it comes with 35mm cable ?
