Bad cat would usually give a high NOx reading, CO is more likely to be a bad O2 sensor, they have to be pretty bad to flag a MIL so you can't rely on that to indicate that its duff.

Thanks fellas
I'll have a good look at the exhaust - it's well past its best tbh.
I'll also have a look at the lambda sensor on the OBDII live data - I'm guessing the voltage fluctuation will indicate whether it's a duffer or not?

The OBD2 tool will be too slow to get any real idea of how well the O2 is switching, check the fuel trims and the temperature sensors.

What am I looking for with the fuel trims and the temperature sensors?

Our 2002 soft top failed on emissions, All readings sky high yet it we'd running fine and no lamp on . Replaced the manifold lambda with a universal one( you have to cut the wires and solder the plug on. Cost about £ 30 instead of £95+ from the dealers. Passed with flying colours.
