I decided against a loud sounding engine .. because it made it seem like my Jimny was struggling more than it actually was .. plus it's great to see the Land Rover owner's faces when you toodle around silently .. while they have to hear how much fuel they're burning trying to follow you! 
Although saying that, my Jimny is currently very much stock. Once i've got some meaner tyres etc... I might then give it the bark that it deserves!
