Rear wheel spinning... was created by Muzza904
So i was changing my drum break pads tonite and had the back wheel off the ground. At some point I ended up turning the engine on and with it idleing in neutral the rear hub was whirring round and required a fair amount of force to stop it?? Does this mean my clutch is going or what? Also when my car is sat in neutral it makes a whirring noise but dip the clutch and it goes quiet. Just wondered if anyone might know. Thanks in advance

It normal on some cars for the wheels to turn
The noise may be the release bearing

Dont know much about clutches but im guessing you mean the release bearing for the clutch? Easy to fix or replace?

Yer thats the one you have to remove the gearbox to replace it you may be able to get it on its own or just fit a new clutch kit its up to you my other car lasted 5 year with a noisey bearing then it just broke up

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Whichever wheel is easiest to turn will go round, it is how the differential works
Made in The Olden Days when cars were built properly.
If you had the other wheel on the ground and managed to stop the spinning wheel,, it should have driven off the jack
The noise may be the release bearing, or it may just be wear in the gearbox, do check the gearbox oil level.
