If the rust holes can be seen from underneath i should fail the mot so something would need welding in place if your convident in cutting it out and not catching it on fire do as you said with sheet steel and brace it but if you was to fit a new floor pan then all the spot welds would need drilling out to get a good fit and seeing as it a new panel in replace of old it can be spot welded/mig plug welded back in other wise it would need to be seam welded all the way round if it was just steel plate

Thanks marky
If I decide not to throw out the rear seats in the garage then ill do it right and put in a new floor.
If not ill just go down the sheet steel and bracing route.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Suzuki parts seem to have shot up in price recently- and they were pretty much gold plated hand made Rolls Royce prices to start with.
Also suzuki agents are disappearing fast, the one I pass on the way home is now Skoda, and the only one left I can drive to no longer has a parts department, or any interest in getting parts in, just helpfully suggest I might like an hours drive to a parts department that is open. Not a lot of help when you don't have a parts catalogue to 'phone and get an estimate
