If any where zinc coated, mine should be... but mine is a little scabby in the rear tray.

The rear exhaust may well be a cause, but its reasonably well ventilated when moving so shouldn't cause too much of an issue.

The main issue in the tray is the two skins of metal, and water gets trapped between them.
If you get underneath you can see the ventilation holes where water gets in.

Its a known Jimny fault... and if you go out to buy a 2013 model, wait 5-6 years and that will rust too because the design hasn't changed since 1998 ;)

WRONG IN A BIG WAY

If there is any rust holes within 30cm 12" in old money lol of the body mounts seat/seat belt mounts then is should fail it its being tested correctly

But if you take the seats and belts out then does it matter?

Depends how the tester interprets "The manual" the relevant wording is

"deliberate modification, excessive corrosion, damage, cracks or inadequate repair of a load bearing body or chassis member which seriously affects its strength within 30cm of the body mountings."

"Deliberate modification which significantly reduces the original strength, excessive corrosion, severe distortion, a fracture or an inadequate repair of a load bearing member or its supporting structure or supporting panelling within 30cm of a seat belt anchorage,"

Is a seat belt anchorage with no seat belt fitted still a seatbelt anchorage?

Is the jack well load bearing?

I would say no in both cases, but I'm not the MOT tester.

You can always appeal against an MOT failure, but best to repair in such a way that the question doesn't arise in the first place.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

The boot area of my Jimny is well rusted, you can see the road underneath in a few places. Rear seats and belts were removed and it passed MOT OK.

I got an advisory for rear suspension bushes being perished and for the rusty boot, but that was it.
