2007 Jimny with a high idle? was created by chewy7
Hi lads,
I've got a 2007 Automatic Jimny, with 136,000km on the clock. The car drives perfectly fine, however, when at a set of lights, the idle stays around 1,000rpm, then when you place it in park, it shoots up to 2,000rpm.
Any ideas why it has a high idle? Is it worth cleaning out the throttle body and the idle control valve?
Thanks

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Sounds high to me.
May have an air leak somewhere
The thin rubber pipe from the inlet manifold to the vacuum control valves for the hubs is a likely culprit.
The idle control valve could be stuck
The throttle butterfly could be sticking partially open (as you suggest, cleaning and checking wiring connections might sort it)
Servo pipe could be split
One of the breather pipes could be split there is a small grey PCV valve attached to the rocker cover that can affect the idle, but it normally causes erratic behaviour rather than consistently fast.
There is also an up idle function built into the ecu for when the air con switches on, this may be operating all the time.

Thanks mate! I'll give those a crack tomorrow and report back. Fingers crossed it works.
I noticed if I switch the A/C on or off, it doesn't affect the idle. hmm !
Also, the 4wd system works O.K. thus far .Except it doesn't go into 4L?

So I did a oil change, filter, spark plug and cleaned the ICV and put it back together. Still the same problem.
Will try source a new valve and see how it goes!
Cheers,
Shane

I started off high and worked my way down ever since

I don't suppose the high idle helps but try flooring the clutch when selecting 4L. You do know 4L has to be selected at a standstill AFTER you have selected 4WD?
As for the high idle I would suspect the idle valve?

Are there any fault codes?
I'd expect something if it cannot control the idle speed, P0505 or P0507, P0507 most likely, I don't think that one sets the MIL on.
On an auto you will need to be in neutral to get 4L
