Some idiot cracked my left mirror's glass so now I have to replace it. Was looking to remove the plastic mounting plate but apparently it cannot be removed just by pulling it carefully. The car is a 1998 model (with the bigger mirrors).

Cannot find anything about it on the service manual. Any help will be greatly apreciated :)

When the glass went on my 1999 jimny i stuck one of these over the cracked glass, it came with a couple of strips of double sided foam tape and is as good as new. Turned up in a couple of days aswell. B)

I have removed the plastic mounting plate before using a flat bladed screw driver and working round very carefully. Then you can remove the old glass and put in a replacement. Best to warm out all up in the house for a bit first and them use a hair dryer to help fit the replacement glass.

Gold Jimny the best colour (sold) :(

Big red Jimny 32" tyres, arbs, cage 5:1 transfer etc. (Sold)

Grey pick up Jimny
Turbo m13a, arbs, floating rear shafts, disc conversion rear, vented front conversion. 245 70 16. Winch, 3" lift, 4:16 trans hd shafts and CVS

I didn't remove it, just put the stick-on glass on top of the old cracked stuff. The wing mirror is supposedly a sealed unit, according to suzuki who wanted £168 for the near side.

Damn, that's bad news.

Then I guess the best approach would be to remove the entire mirror, remove the cracked glass, then take the mirror in the house and somehow heat a bit the mounting plate, then install the new glass.

Is the part about tthe sealed unit 100% sure? Maybe they just tried to get your money :)
