Securing waffle boards to roof rails - how? was created by GuardianAngel
Might seem a stupid question  , but...

I have ordered some waffle boards (ebay 330818428831), but have just realised I don't have any roof bars that go across the built in roof rails.

Without spending much money, is there as way of securing the boards to just the rails? Roof bars seem very expensive so want to avoid buying.

Maybe I could just put them in the Jim itself, but if I use them they are going to be very muddy :(

If you don't mind drilling your roof bars with a holes on each side and have a board on each side and bolt them on

Thanks, but I will pass on that!

However, the solution is obvious, cant believe I even asked the question

Will get two lengths of wood for my bars, and cross strap them onto the rails with heavy duty cable ties. Finish off with bungees to secure the waffle boards to the wood bars.

I have recently brought a set of waffle boards and they are a lot heavier than you think so would suggest something a little more substantial than bungee straps. Also a lot of the green lanes I have been down have a lot of overhanging branches so you need something that will keep them on tight. I have nothing finished for the waffle boards yet but presently have a setup to carry my jack, I have used some spare roof bars to bridge the factory bars, Halfords sell some standard bars for £30 from what I remember or even try ebay for some cheap second hand ones. I then used 4 exhaust clamps to attach these to the factory bars. You can just see them in this photo.

For the waffle boards I plan on either using ladder clamps like these on ebay, or making my own version up with a similar idea, this will allow me to lock them also as I will leave them on there sometime.

When I had my Pinin I had a canvas bag made with a thick velcro closer. can be hosed out & keeps the interior clean. Now I can tie it to the cage

Cheers all. To keep costs down for the moment I will keep them in the J. They will be delivered in a box and I can slide them between the front seats.
