i thought the jimny was about 80bhp while the swift was closer to 100, also the internals of the swift are better, i was thinking about the 1.6 16v upgrade but wasnt sure excatly what would be needed (much like that with the swift!)

I've got a GTI(g13b) in my SJ, and also one older g13a GTI in the garage that formerly was under the hood of the SJ. But I don't think those are much different if you're towing something, because the GTI is a high revving engine that puts out the most HP at 6000rpm's or so, and torque is the thing you need when towing something and it's not pushing out much more of it than the Jimny engine is. I would look into some bigger engines if I was you.
Maybe the easiest swap would be to fit 1.6 block and Jimny head together so you wouldn't need to do anything to the wirings.

thanks, what did you have to do to fit the G13b engine? just out of interest, with the 1.6 engine are you referring to the 8v or 16v engine? if putting the jimny head onto the 1.6 lump would that make it a direct swap or is there more involved? thanks

As I wrote earlier, the Isuzu 1.7 TD is a good choice, found in older Opel/Vauxhall Astras. Try searching the this forum.
