king pin bearing help! was created by mh397
hi everyone new on here and looking for some help/advice. I have recently noticed that there is oil leaking from the passenger swivel hub on to the tire and when i rock the wheel top and bottom i can feel play. I think that this is because the king pin bearings are cream crackerd, dose that sound right? I went to the local garage to get a price to get it done and they quoted me £280, about 3hours labour and £120ish for the bearing kit dose that sound right only ive seen the kit on here for £25 is that all it would need if it is the king pin bearings or could it be somthing else? Im thinking of having a go myself if its gonna cost a fortune at the garage is there any nasty bits to the job or is it reasonbly straight forward? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks mh397.

Look on the how to guide on this site. King pins are not bad to do. Just make sure you have the bearings and inner oil seal, grease and sealant plus tools. Check your diff oil level after as well in case its been leaking for a while. Martin sells all you need on here.

Click "How to guides" under the Information tab at the top of the page, not done them myself yet but there's lots of info in the guide.

its not a hard job to do if you don't mind getting your hands dirty so i would just buy the bearings & oil seal from the bigjimny shop & do it yourself save yourself a fortune
was that quote just to do 1 side or both ???

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

The garage is likely quoting to change both kingpins as well as the bearings using genuine suzuki parts.
Suzukis are hand made from very rare and exotic alloys, so all spares are about 5 times what you would expect to pay
For things like bearings and oilseals, you can get the same part much cheaper.
There is also a big dust seal around the swivel ball housing, that is about £25 a side, you have to get Suzuki ones
