Thanks Kirkynut and p1ngu32. I had a feeling Goodwinches would be to big. Basically i need the winch to recover the car and prehaps help out others. That is from fairly "normal" situations. I see most people recomend a 9000lbs winch. Prehaps this one?

It wont be, at least for a few years, be a extreme off roader. So full roll cage and winch bumper wont be coming along any time soon! The main aim is to have a highly capeable off-raoder for green laning and play days that can get itself out of trouble if i find myself stuck on mine own. I would rather fit the most powerful winch i can that will fit between the chassis rails.
Is it best to run the winch with another battery? I would imagine space would be an issue!
Thanks Nobby

That's what I would be looking at, or a Champion equivalent.9000lb is a good winch for a Zuk.6000lb is the minimum but I have a 9500lb Superwinch and it will never stall pulling a Jimny.
Champions and their spares can be got from Winch Solutions, but call to check stock before ordering online. I think Bearmach might be the importers of T-Max from Australia and I don't know how good their spares back up is but they are good quality and if you buy from Jimnybits you know Russ gives good service.
It sounds like you'll be using it as it comes out of the box then, with wire rope and its not worth you doing anything else.
Just use gloves and a winch blanket/sail and get someone who knows what they are doing to give you some instruction on winching. It sounds daft as its a button for in and one for out but there's a bit more to it than that.
If that wire rope snaps it will have a lot of tension in it and will flail around at speed, which can cause horrific injuries or mame! So respect is needed, innit.
Also don't allow it to run through your hands or one day you'll have a nasty piece of metal go through it!
I think you can get a training Dvd from Goodwinch for next to nothing.

I use both, heavy duty gloves and a winch sail with my steal rope. as my sail is bright red. it also means if anyone missed the line, coz there blind, hopefully they'd see the sail. and then the penny would drop
and my tmax 6500 pulled a defender 110 out of trouble
Tho I didn't own a winch sail at the point the video was filmed

Yeah Kirkynut i dont plan on doing any extreme winching! Just needs to recover the car. But i dont want to have a winch that can "just about" pull the car out. If it will fit i may as well put in a more powerful winch. I dont want it to burn out half way through a recovery. I will defo get aome sort of trainig. Its the sort of thing you need to know what your doing to keep yourself and others safe and the car in one piece.
I've been on winch solutions and in terms of price the Champion and T-MAX winches are about the same. Thanks for the advice.

Good old Jimny
. Its not as if you where pulling out a 90. Is that a Defender 110 of 130? Either way they arnt light! Did you have to anchor the Jimny to stop it getting pulled forward?

no I didn't anchor my self. and I never do trying to recover someone else! This method is my 'Natural Fuse'
My theory is, someone sits in the driver seat with there foot on the brakes. and if my Jimny starts dragging itself forward too much. then I stand down and let a bigger truck do the recovery.
basicly my winch is paired up to the weight of my truck. i.e (winch pull 2.9t - truck weight 1.1t) so that nearly a rate of 3 to 1 , which i'm happy with. .
So.. I'd rather my truck drag it's self forward.. than overload my winch or strain/twist my chassis. so you see the grip of my tyres is like a fuse, coz that will give first.
over protective I know , lol
