2 reasons:

Cost

Just price up a gasket set and a set of pistons & rings and shells.

There are plenty of rolled over jimnys to keep the cost of an engine reasonable compared to new spares.

Time: it takes a lot less time to swap an engine than to recondition one.

Eventually when all the scrap jimnys dry up people will start reconditioning parts rather than swapping out.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

ive just bought a jimny with a siezed bottom end, if the costs are too much i will be going down the baleno engine route, seems one of the best im told.
