Jimny JB43 2008 (post face lift bumper) - Tires upgrade to 215/75/15

Hi everyone! I’m new to the channel and own a 2008 Suzuki Jimny JB43 petrol version, with stock second-generation facelift front bumper, which has a deeper, lower profile. Car is currently stock, but want to do some upgrades gradually. I currently run old Hankook Dynapro RF10. I’m currently looking to upgrade my tires from the stock 205/70/15 to 215/75/15, while keeping the original stock rims and suspension.I’ve read that there might be some issues with tire rubbing with this sizen, particularly on JB43 models equipped with the stock second-generation facelift front bumper, which has a deeper, lower profile.Has anyone here fitted 215/75/15 tires to a completely stock JB43 with this specific facelift bumper and original rims? If so, I’d really appreciate hearing about your actual experience.
  • Do the tires rub at full steering lock or when the suspension is compressed?
  • Is any trimming or modification of the bumper, wheel arches, or liners necessary is no liftkit?
  • Does the setup work without any other modifications?
I’m considering either the Yokohama Geolandar G018 or the Toyo Open Country AT3, both in 215/75/15 but I would like to be sure before actually ordering the tires :) I’d appreciate feedback from anyone who has run this exact tire size on otherwise stock Jimny with this post-facelift bumper. I’m looking forward to your input and help. Thanks in advance!

I know my 215/75/R15 BFG mud terrains caught on the front bumper on full lock even with a 2inch lift fitted! We then added spring spacers to see if just that bit more clearance would do it and it still wasn't enough! Eventually the dealer "Adjusted" the way the front bumper sits  and then it gave enough clearance at full lock and I haven't had any problems with it since picking it up in January. I was surprised at how little clearance the Gen 3 Jimny has given that we have the same tyres fitted to a stock Gen 4 Jimny with no lift.

Thank you for quick feedback! Appreciate the input!!

Is diameter of mudterrain tires in this dimension generally larger than diameter of allterrain tires of same tire size, due to larger knobs?

In terms off offroading feel, is there anything else
I'd benefit with fitting larger tires other than ground clearance?

I used to run Maxxis Worm Drive 215/75/r15 on my 2011 Gen 3, but couldn’t say if it had the same bumper as you.

They didn’t rub, except when I bent the front bumper back at a BigJimny event, although it was an easy fix.

One way to check is to measure the outside diameter and width of the tyres you currently have on, then measure the clearance on full lock (both ways).

Then just get the outside dimensions of the new tyre (diameter and width) and compare to check you have clearance.

Thank you! I think 2011 has the same stock bumper as 2008. I've attached photo I found online of how it looks, is yours the same?

Were your maxxis fitted on stock suspension without any liftkit?

I'll try measuring like mentioned as well!

Thanks

The bumper changes in 2005 then again in 2013. The ones either side of those dates have better clearance than those within the range. That said until you are wanting to fit quite big tyres you're only trimming plastic
