Having just sold my 2020 SZ5, I now have a 2025 JDM JC 74, in Chiffon Ivory.
Currently only done a few hundred miles, mostly in collecting it from the supplier!
I live totally off-road, my other vehicle being a 2012 defender 110, without which life out here "In the sticks" would be impossible. The new auto Jimny is the "luxury vehicle", & will be used mainly for longer journeys, as the older SZ5 was.
I'm adding as much mud protection as possible, the SZ5 served me well in this respect & had no rust issues at all.
However, I am mystified by the rear wheel arch liners on the JC 74.... Sound deadening? But why put what amounts to a short pile carpet on the business side of the liners!?
Has anyone had a real world experience of these in off-road terms? I don't 'off-road' my Jimnys' for pleasure, they are a work-horse to get me the 3/4 mile down or track to civilisation. The problem apart from mud, is that the local sheep use our gate & most of the higher level (800 feet ASL) track as a toilet, so we end up with sheep s**t everywhere!
Will it stick to the liner?
My first thoughts were to remove the liner, coat the pile side with a catalytic resin, followed by a couple of layers of fibreglass. What I don't want to do is get the liners so impregnated with sheep s**t that they can't be kept clean.
What you're describing is, as far as I know, not an original Suzuki item - my 2024 JC74 does not have it - I have seen them advertised and it's not something I would have fitted, for reasons similar to the ones you have stated.
It is entirely possible that Suzuki chose to supply it with JDM models, but not export ones, but, as far as I'm aware, it's not OEM.
I'm a shepherd so feel your pain. Waxoyl and regular washing has served me well with all my jimny over the last 15 years. You can't prevent it so you have to mitigate it.
I think Fordem is right that only certain markets had extra sound deadening. All the JDM 3 & 5 doors I've seen has it. I also wondered if it would just collect dirt and be a pain to keep clean. We did notice though on our little road test of a Nomade is that it was noticeably quieter than our UK cars so perhaps that little bit of carpet does actually work. If noise didn't concern you with your 3 door then I can't see the harm in taking it off.
