If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

A supercharger would probably do it

Thanks for sharing the video, I enjoyed that. Quite an achievement for a couple of blokes without access to the resources of a large organisation.
The altitude challenge would make a great story if enough videos and pictures are available.

From memory I think it was a Vitara 1,6 g16a.
Cant remember the gearing what they did.
There was an ecu with adjustable air to fuel ratio and a supercharger. Diff lockers
Lift and cutting and what look like at least 35's.

When you actually get into it the maths is really quite interesting. With a naturally aspirated engine you are looking at upwards of 3 percent loss of power per 1000 feet of altitude, supercharger gets that down to 1 to 2 percent and a turbo gets better still at around. 5 to 1.5 percent per 1000 feet. Now when you are talking about 17000 ish feet that could potentially see power down by 25 to 50 percent over what you had at sea level. Now the obvious thing is electric power as it doesn't care but it's complicated by the weight to range issue. It's all clever stuff.
