Whatcha. It's occurred to me that while I have waxed and coated temeraire to keep the worst of the weather off she is still obliged to sleep outside. I have looked at a storage tent but unfortunately because of how my drive is laid out that would put it past the front elevation and therfore foul of planning. Sooooo, I am now looking at a proper cover for her. I accept that you get what you pay for but are there any out there that are either sufficiently form fitting or well lined enough that they won't rub through the paint when it's windy which it always is living on top of a hill? I'd prefer not to have to power said cover like the pressurised bubble ones.

My feeling based on my experience with boat storage covers and car covers is that they all Rub and would cause potential damage in some ways (I took a big winter cover off a boat today with the owner and he noticed that it's worn through his Gelcoat!). I was told by my car detailer that he doesn't like car covers due to damaging the paintwork. For my outdoor jimnys though I did buy a cover as we have a a lot of trees around and this time of year the pollen starts so I like to keep the car covered up that I won't be using. I bought just a cheapish generic car cover which does the job for a temporary cover up but I wouldn't like it in a very windy situation. I would have no cover during high winds. One tip I would give is to buy a cover bigger than the car as even with my latest cover it's still a bit small. You can get fleeced lined stuff but that presents its own challenges such as being heavier to get on and off the car. Also you would have to carefully watch that it doesn't pick up any grit in the fleece lining. Whilst the cover on my car is lightweight it does take me & my dad to carefully place the cover over the car to avoid it going on the floor or dragging it across the car.
So I think overall the best practice is to have no cover but a well protected polished car that's easy to wash off. If you want a cover then you want something lightweight thats easy to put on but also has good tie downs to keep it tight to the car rather than it flapping against the car and if it does look windy and too much for the cover to handle then just take it off.

Thank you. That rather confirms my worries that they can't avoid doing some damage to the paint and the more I take it on and off the higher the potential for damage especially as I would be doing so on my own. Hmmm.
