Camera system was created by Lambert
On the basis that it's only paranoia if they are not out to get you,  I am having thoughts towards a camera system for the observation of my cars at any given moment via an app on my phone. I have them all tracked so I know where they are and if they move and I was hoping to be able to integrate that with seeing who is interfering with them. What I don't know enough about is where such camera is best located, on the house or in the car or some combination and also if such a system exists which is best.  A bit of advice to get me going please.

I have cameras integrated into my house alarm and 2 more watching the front and back, my Jimny is covered by the front camera.
If I had it earlier I would have caught my neighbour creasing the door of my Ignis.

My personal recommendation is  amazon's Ring camera system,  it has a subscription system, but lots of good options from mains powered to solar , it has to use wifi,  but they do have a good range

Hmm subscription is a bit of a concern, I'm not against it as such but I prefer one and done paying just because of having a limited monthly cash flow. But other than that ring is a good system? I've seen adverts for quite a few varieties and they all sound super amazing which if it's too good to be true it probably is?

I have a Foscam which is a few years old and works both as a visible deterrent but also gets good video. I don’t use Foscam’s system though, but upload videos to my server and I can view them on there. I used to get alerts by email but it was flooding my service provider and they suspended my account, so had to turn them off. There are a lot of camera suppliers now, some have a fairly simple alerting system (with video), but often no storage. A lot of cameras will store the video on an SD card.

We bought a Ring doorbell a couple of years ago, the video is very good and Ring also do cameras, all equally great. You can use a Ring device without a subscription, but you have to have your phone on to see the video as it happens and there is no video storage without a subscription. The subscription for a single device s about £50/year now, quite expensive in my opinion, but we have got used to it and we are reluctant to change. There are alternatives to Ring, but most are going the subscription route to derive a revenue stream.

A couple of things to consider, if your camera stores the video locally, the thief just needs to smash or nick the camera. If it sends it by WiFi then they can come along with a jammer.

Another tactic is to walk/drive past the camera to trigger it, the camera times out and then before it will trigger again they come and do the job. Might not be a problem in your yard with limited access.

'Blink' video door bells and cameras, don't need a subscription. You can stick a memory card into the Sync Hub, and store the footage locally. They connect to your wi-fi, so you can view them on you mobile app while about and about.
