If you still want to do the g16 swap you must look for a period correct g16 donor engine so the wiring is more or less the same. One with two coils on the head like the one in the Jimny. anything else would be a pain.

That would be a G16b, not a G16a, and as far as I know, the only "non-transverse" model it came in would have been the early 1.6 Grand Vitaras.

The problem with using an engine from a transverse engined donor is that you have to source several pieces from a non-transverse engined vehicle - oil pan, oil pump pickup, intake & exhaust manifolds, along with some cooling system plumbing.

Doing a 1.6 > 1.3 swap with M-series is just so much simpler.
Last edit: 01 Aug 2025 17:00 by fordem. Reason: correction - change 1.3 > 1.6 swap to read 1.6 > 1.3

The engine blocks are the same in all so just as well to use a transverse mounted engine as they are most likely cheaper and more available and have the correct wiring. You can use the G13 Oil Pan and cooling plumbing. And all Brackets for auxhiliaries and manifolds.
But you will need to remake or modify engine mounts and Oil pickup from the parts you got between the G13 and g16.
