Hello! I have a 2013 Jimny 1.3 JB43.It's the JLX model. According to the technical sheet I found online, it should have Airbags and ABS as safety features, but my Jimny doesn't have them. However, it does have other things like central locking and electric windows. I'm not sure if this is due to it being a more basic version or because of the year. What I found curious is that when I looked up my vehicle's VIN on the following website www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Suzuki , it indicates:

Among all these characteristics, some match, like the color and engine type, but others don't, such as the model (Samurai?), fuel type, and airbag, etc.
Why are there inconsistencies? Is this normal on this web pages?
Returning to the topic of Airbags and ABS, I checked, and it doesn't have them. Is it possible to add ABS?
Best Regards!

You are calling it a jlx which suggests you are not in the UK? Easiest way to find out what it has is to look. Does the steering wheel have a large centre horn pad with the letters SRS on it? Under the bonnet on your right hand side above the inner wing is there a silver metal cube with many metal pipes going into and out of it. If you have then that's the air bag and the abs pump respectively.

I'm also guessing it's a non-Europe model, as ABS was mandatory in the EU from 2004.

The Jimny ABS is a slightly kludgey 3-channel system where both rear brakes receive the same hydraulic input, so it's best not to depend on it.  Like all ABS, it is designed to maintain steering control during braking and will not stop you any sooner.

I disagree.
In an emergency you just stamp the brake pedal to the floor and hold it there*, and the ABS will continually modulate the brakes at the point of locking which will give the shortest stopping distance. (Also maintain steering control and stop the back end overtaking the front)

If you are a very experienced cool as a cucumber Total Driving God, then you can in ideal circumstances beat the ABS by just applying sufficient pressure to hold the wheels at the threshold of locking.
Which is something that most of us cannot reliably do, plus the ABS can use the back brakes fully, the non-ABS car will have the back brakes cut off prematurely by the load sensing valve, because the one thing you don't want is to lock the back before the front, and have the back end overtake the front.

*Most people's immediate panic reaction when they aren't stopping is to press harder, they have to think to lift up when they are staring death in the face. We don't do it very often, which is why most of us lack the skills to beat ABS

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

We're going off topic, but most people misunderstand the purpose of ABS.  It can shorten stopping distances on some surfaces and lengthen it on others (it is unusually bad on snow or loose surfaces) but that isn't why it's there.  It's so you don't have to brake hard in a straight line only.

In practice, when non-ABS cars were still commonplace, the ABS cars had more accidents.  This was believed to be because drivers tailgated more, thinking ABS would save them.  This was due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the feature.

The correct way to use ABS is to absolutely mash the brake pedal and to steer out of trouble if you can.  AEB (on later Jimnys, I think) is a very useful addition to ABS as it senses a panic brake application and does the "mashing" for you.  Most drivers don't brake as hard as they could in an emergency.

I agree and disagree
Not all ABS systems are born equally, you can't assume that they will give you the shortest stopping distance, in some instances it can be longer. A lot depends on the speed of the system modulation, slow modulation increase the distance.
Its primary function is to allow control of the vehicle to be maintained, so the best way is to avoid it's altogether if you can.

Slightly academic on the Jimny, the brakes have natural ABS due to their lack luster performance .....

Happy stopping and just my opinion
