Need help to diagnose possible issue with the car was created by Jimny555
Hi,
Got a vanilla 2015 Jimny model which comes with their TC system.
I took it off-roading and I got stuck in a certain rather technical part of the road.
The front-left wheel and the back-right wheels got spinning without traction, but not only the TC didn't get the situation under control, it also made these very loud "tick-tick-tick" noises which also translated into very harsh steering vibrations. It felt more like a technical issue in the drivetrain rather than an intentional system design.
My wife took a short video of the event. The tick noises can be heard around 00:10.
I need an advise whether this is normal for 2015 Jimny w/ TC, or is something broken in my drivetrain. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. First things first were you in low range? Secondly the clicking isn't normal. When you were stuck was the yellow light on the dashboard for the ESP/TC flashing at you? With the system working properly it should have spun a little and walked up there no worries. The obvious culprit for the clicking would be a CV joint but that would have been clicking quite constantly without the spinning wheel. Otherwise it could be debris in a brake or other rotating assembly but neither account for the lack of action from the TC.

1) I was in 4x4 Low mode, yes. It was engaged when it happened.
2) I don't recall the TC flashing, but I was very distracted at the moment so I didn't register too much in my mind at the moment. I assume you are asking because you would expect it to flash, right?

Ok so yeah the light should flash while the system is working. It should also light up and go out after a vehicle start as it's self diagnosis runs. If not then check that someone has not removed the system fuse. Do you have access to a diagnostic tool that can read more than basic engine codes like SZ Viewer that would show any existing and older codes for the ESP/TC system and could help narrow down your search.

That clicking is normal drivetrain noise for that sort of situation, where one or more wheels are under very low load but finding a small amount of grip. I treat it as an indicator to stop trying. I can't help with the traction control thing but as Lambert says I would have expected it to get you up there.

So it's like it's just backlash in the system being dissipated as a wheel spins?
