How much weight in accessories can i add to a 2007 Jimny was created by berro225
New to the forum. Just wondering how much weight people are adding to thier jimnys in terms of accessories (i.e bullbar, rockslider, winch). All up ive worked out with everyting I want to put on it will be about 120 extra kg and was wondering if this would be an issue in terms of the engine. dont mind if its a bit slower on the road and i have heavy duty suspession already.
Cheers

Obviously it will impact performance but not that badly. What you need to be careful of is that the average Jimny only has around 350kg of carrying capacity which has to include driver and any passengers as well as the bolt on bits and also all the everyday life junk everyone has with them all the time. It's not difficult to overload a jimny without trying. My last one with a few guards and my daily carry was 1160 out of a possible 1420. Add me at 140kg left me with 120kg or in reality reality my old man and a couple of bags of sheep food. Ok I'm heavier than most people but still you can see how easy it is to be overloaded.

One of the Jimny's biggest strengths is that it's small and light, so it's worth keeping that in mind. Also remember to include wheel weight, assuming you are fitting bigger wheels.
Also the position of the weight makes a difference. A heavy bumper and winch at the very front of the vehicle makes it much more unbalanced than the same weight in the passenger seat. Same goes for weight up high with massive roof racks- best avoided!
Some of my favourite setups have simple steel bumpers with a receiver hitch, then a winch that can be mounted in the hitch as and when needed. This keeps the weight lower, more centralised (winch can live behind the seats when not in use) and gives added functionality of being able to winch from the front and rear.

Do you want to add these accessories for the looks or for actual use off road? If it's for looks than just keep the weight limits in mind. If you intend to use it seriously off road then weight is your enemy. Every kilo you add is another kilo trying to pull you back down the hill or deeper into the mud. In that use case I agree 100% with Busta.

It's also probably worth taking the car to a weigh bridge either before or after to get an exact figure rather than some best guess. I need to do my current Jimny as it is a different configuration to the last one.

I intend to use it for off roading as well. I already have an XROX bullbar and rocksliders on it and intend on putting a rear bar and small light roof rack just to store my bow for hunting. Cheers for the response
