Hello folks,

The 2008 VVTS failed its MOT today and theres parts of Jim that need welded... Ive got someone who can do the welding job but wont prepare the Jimmy for the job.

Welding probs are here on the J

Cab or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of a cab mounting Nearside Rear (near sill)
Cab or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of a cab mounting Offside Rear (near sill)
Cab or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of a cab mounting Nearside Rear (at rear in arch)
Cab or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of a cab mounting Offside Rear (at rear in arch)

The problem I have is the lad I have to weld wont (prepare) the Jimmy and said I have to take of the body panels so he can get to the parts. Is this doable by myself?

I've looked at all the fixings and looks OK to remove myself but want to make sure there is a correct order to do the removal in so I dont F it up!

Can share pics tomorrow if that helps... Thanks!!!

Hi Chris
I think pictures are going to help with this.
You sort of can't do much around body mounts other than separate the chassis and body, so not sure which body panels you intend to remove. Other than the wings the rest of the removable bits tend to be plastic trim.
Looking forward to some photos.

As above without pictures it's a bit hard to tell but basically if it's just plastic trim that has to come off for access then yes it's all held on with a variety of clips and screws and is just a matter of being methodical and firm but gentle so as to minimise the inevitable breakages of the clips. It's also prudent to keep the fittings separate by trim piece and to take a few before during and after pictures as a reference for putting it back. Post some pics and then we can see if there is anything specific you need to be aware of.

Thanks for getting in touch so quick folks. Right... I've been and took as best pictures as I can get to explain where the welding is neededThe first Image explains where the 4 welding jobs need to be carried out. Its all around the rear wheel arch areas and I think its part of the Cab but not sure if its the Chassis.Anyway - If anyone can explain what I'd need to remove so the welder can access and weld these areas that would be great. Thanks,

Ok so that's going to be bumper off and arch extensions which is always going risk further welding being necessary. Fortunately the bumper is just screws and the extensions are clips it's all doable for a novice with a cheap screwdriver set, a spanner or 2 and a cheap set of trim levers.
