Does anyone know what 'service mode' actually does other disable the ESC?

Looks to a bit of a faff to enter the service mode. But it is a free option.Much better way to do that than isolating the fuse by using maintenance mode.
Pretty sure its been discussed here somewhere before.
I wouldn't do the fuse method.
