Can my old Jim live again? was created by JE
The head gasket has blown on my beloved 20 year old Jim. Several people have told me to scrap it but I’ve had this little beast for 14 years and can’t bear to part with it. Is it worth fixing or do I need a reality check. I bloody love this Jim!

Welcome to the forum. On the basis that the car you own is the cheapest you can buy I say fix it.

Repair it!
What's the alternative, buy another that you don't know the history of?
Definitely repair if it's otherwise in good condition.
You'll probably repair it for two monthly payments on a new vehicle.

I did the head gasket on my Astra a few years ago, it was straight forward as I suspect is the Jimny, so provided the head isn't cracked or warped and the rest of the car is okay, it might be worth it, especially if you can do it yourself.

I'd have to say "Better the devil you know"
If you can do it yourself....less than £50 and it's done
If you can't then it'll be a sizeable bill at a garage no doubt.
