Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

Spark plugs are a mine field of costs, ranging from £3.50 to £24.00 each.
Avoiding all the magic performance claims the big one for the more expensive plug is service interval. The cheaper plugs have a manufacturers claimed life of about 10K, or fit every year. At the other end NGK Iridium claiming over 60K.
You need to do your own maths as to which is cost effective for you, but how do they actually last in real life.
The cheap end do exactly what they say, change them every year.
But I've tested a set of medium priced BERU plugs, and here is the result:
Make - BERU UTP11P sold by many motor factors
Cost - £8 to £16 depending upon offers
Construction - Look like Iridium but difficult to find information
Manufacturers Life - Again not stated, but at £16 they need to achieve 40k to beat cheap plugs
Do they work in a Jimny - YES
Condition after 20K - Starting to exceed adjustment limit of 1.1mm / need replacing
Would you recommend ? - No, service lift too short for cost of plug
Some pictures
Four plugs as removed from 2009 M13A VVT after 20K miles.
You can see electrode erosion on the left plug, two within limit, two just out of limit
I am in the process of running the same test on NGK Iridium plugs, they claim 60K plus, so hopefully they will do better. One issue with long life plugs is the Suzuki service interval of 4 years for this type of plug, expensive if they can't exceed this.
Hope some find this interesting even if it's to only avoid BERU UTP plugs as a long life alternative.

For me the book says ngk iridium, the car gets ngk iridium. They also get changed on schedule too. As for the cost, if I had to pay main dealer taxes then I might find it a little painful but I don't so without the labour costs part and consumable prices are relatively negligible.

As I change them myself and it takes so little time on the Jimny (10 Minutes), I am just trying to look into what you get for the extra cost of performance plugs etc, hence my own little tests.
The book also lists a Denso and NGK Standard plug, along with Iridium. The NGK Standard plug is an embarrassing £2.00 each and is good for 12 months / under 10k miles.
So fit these and change them every year and, at the Suzuki schedule Iridium change interval, you will have spent £24, £64 for Iridium over the same period. I get you save labour charges if you go to a garage and they are difficult to change, but I don't nor are they difficult, so I save 20 minutes of my time.
Just having a bit of fun and trying a few performance plugs, everyone can fit what they want, just avoid the BERU!!!
Going to be a few years (hopefully) before I can report on the Iridium set I have just fitted.

Absolutely. But I'm a bit of a tart so if there's an expensive Gucci option I'll have that. Other overpriced designer labels are available.
