Roof rack advice for surfboards was created by bluesulu22
Hey Big Jimnys,

Newbie here! Just bought our 2005 auto jimny and looking into roof racks to carry surfboards on the roof. Has anyone got any advice on the best way to transport boards up top? We’ve got two boards, one 7ft and one 8ft and will be taking them on the motorway.

Any recommendations or advice appreciated!

Cheers,
Rebecca

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. The weight limit for a Jimny roof rack is 30kg, but it sounds like your two surf boards will be well below this. Just put them upside down so that the wind loading is pushing the boards down rather than up and I am sure you will be fine.

The roof rails are held in place using plastic fittings and that coupled with the dynamic loading in corners gives the relatively low weight limit.
