Brand new to the world of Jimnys (and 4x4ing in general) - just bought a 2008 Jimny here in Australia and loving every bit of it so far!
The car has got some decent mileage on it, so I’m in the process of tidying up a bunch of NVH issues to make daily driving a little more tolerable. So far, adjusting the door strikes, lubing up the bonnet latch, tightening the dash screws, retrieving loose trim clips from behind the door/boot panels, and sticking some soft Velcro strips in the door jambs has cleared up 90% of unwanted noise.
One big culprit that still haunts me, however, is what seems to be the fuel filler neck hitting something when the car has side-to-side wobbling (like driving offroad…). I’ve undone the two 8mm bolts next to the fuel filler neck and then re-tightened with thread locker, but this has only reduced the noise by about 20%. Is this a known problem, or am I missing another common NVH issue coming from just behind the drivers side door (on a RHD vehicle)?
Welcome to the forum. Have you taken the plastic trim off the inside of the wheel well that protects the filler pipe and checked it is free of rocks and other debris?
That will be my next area of focus! FWIW the sound isn't like a light 'rattle' - it's more like a dull metal-on-metal banging (almost as if you didn't close the door properly and then it was moving back and forward while driving)
The problem is that noises travel. Its possible that a dull clunk could be lots of things like suspension bushes or dampers or worn door hinges, the list is long.
