How about fitting some "Winter" tyres like people do with cars.
Then the Jimny would be almost unstoppable!

l fitted winter tyres to my van, and the difference was incredible.
Where car driver's wheels were spinning uselessly in hills in the snow and ice, my van rolled straight past without even any wheel spin.

Transit Connect (2wd, obviously)

l've wondered about some SZ4 steel wheels with winter tyres, anybody know the price of a Jimny SZ4 steel wheel?

Definetly a fan of Winter tyres and had them in lots of cars. Most memorable was my very 1st purchase of them. I had a MX5 and the first hint of snow it came pretty much undriveable. Tail sliding everywhere. Needed lots of momentum to get anywhere. I liked a bit of adventure and let the tail slide out on occasions can be fun however this was way too much. So one day drove in the snow to Trye shop slithering and sliding. Left with Winter tyres and the transformation was incredible. No drama no excitement drove as if there was no snow on the road. Completely amazed at the transformation. From that point on with any of my rear wheel drive cars I fitted winter tyres.

Now with the Jimny and Toya Opencountry + AT tyres I have been romping around NE Scotland in the snow. Driving sensibly have had absolutely no issues or problems. Pushing it to find its limits yes you can make it lose grip but you are having to push it. Normal sensible driving no problem. You do still need to leave plenty of distance for braking and you still have to take heed of the poor conditions.

I have no doubt winter tyres plus Jimny would make an excellent combination however Jimny in 4wd with AT tyres are pretty good. Such that I do not feel the need to buy Winter tyres. If I was In Finland or something then yes I would go for Winter tyres. No doubt winter tyres would be better but more than delighted with the Jimny. Have had to make quite a few essential trips for shopping in the last few days. Purely coincidental that the requirement for shopping coincides with the most snow. :)

With the plague continuing to ensure the mileage on my Jimny stays low - I think I may end up keeping the Jimny beyond my normal 3 year ownership cycle - plus with no new Jimny's available, there's little else competing for the dollars in my pocket. Your comments regarding long term ownership suggest that the Jimny doesn't self destruct a month after the warranty expires.

Go on - tell us where that hill is - it looks a long way up and a long slide down if it all goes wrong!

The new Hankook tyres and the Jimny have performed brilliant, I feel more at ease than I did in my Defender. The light weight and the grippy tyres makes for a unstoppable driving.

Agree that the light weight of the Jimny aids its performance in the snow - plus the hill descent seemed to work rather well. Having had a Defender from new - I don't miss it (or the build quality) and it looks like the residuals are strong for the Jimny - so as Henry Cole might say "Happy Days"!
