Mechanic recommendations or help - Southwest was created by Jamin
Hi all,
I'm looking for a mechanic or even help from a member here (we can work out payment?) In the Southwest UK.
My Jimny is over here from Belgium to visit family but I've developed a bit of a problem. My accessory belt is squeeling often at stop lights or parking lots and my rpms drop lower than usual as well, stumble a bit, then go back up. I feel like when I turn lights or accessories off it helps the squeeling stop. Anyone know what I'm talking about? BTW, the belt is new and all else looks in good knick. But I haven't changed any of it since purchasing the Jimny recently.
Does anyone know someone with Jimny knowledge who could help out?
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
It is possible the new belt is just slack, it should be in the capabilities of any garage to check it's adjustment.
If you want to check yourself find the longest run between pulleys and then try to twist the belt through 90 deg. You should only just achieve 90 deg, any more and it's slack.
The only other Jimny issue in this area is the bottom crank pulley. They can fail and cause belt tension issues or belt failure. With the engine running take a look at the bottom crank pulley, it shouldn't be wobbly in any way, it should run true. If you can see Wobble it's likely it's failing and will need replacement.
Sorry can't help or suggest garage as too far away. Good luck
Mike

Exactly as Mike suggested, the belt is too slack. If it is new, then they can stretch a bit after a few miles. Use the 90 degree turn method as Mike suggests, then any small garage will be able to tighten it if you don't have the tools. How old is the Jimny? My crank pulley went on a 2011 Jimny with 55k miles on it.
Is it the alternator/water pump belt or the Power assisted steering/air con belt, I am guessing the alternator if the volts are dropping. Do you get the squeal if you turn the wheel lock to lock, if you do it might be the PAS belt.
The alternator is the easier to adjust. If the belt is the correct tension, then the alternator or water pump might be sticking, that possibly means a new alternator/pump.
Sorry, I am in the North of England, so can't help with a recommendation.
