Hello fellow Jimny owners, I have a late 2002 model Jimny that I parked undercover for a few years and it was running fine when I left it there I admit I did leave it for a few years and it had a tiny bit of fuel left which I've siphoned out and yes it had turned into what smelt like turps I've bought a few litres of fuel doctor to shock treat the tank to clean out any varnish and gum I followed the directions on the bottle and initially put 500ml and filled up the tank also I've changed the oil and coolant replaced the spark plugs but still can't get it to start the engine is turning over and sounds like it wants to start could it be the fuel pump relay that I need to replace or the fuel pump maybe if this could be the problem how can I check to find out if that's what's stopping it from starting or could it be something else that's the problem??

Welcome to the forum. It could be many things if its been sat a while. I am assuming that you don't have any fuel leaks and the pipes are in reasonable condition? Do you have a compressor to blow the fuel lines out? Checking the pump is not an easy thing as the tank has to be removed there is no access from above. Have you done a continuity test on the main relays?

To test the pump couldn't Zen76 disconnect the fuel delivery pipe in the engine compartment and with a suitable length of hose from the delivery pipe into a suitable container, or even the fuel tank, turn on the ignition and see if he gets fuel flowing?

If the lines are clear and there is electricity to the pump?

Thanks for giving a quick reply to my question, so I should check the fuel pump relay first hopefully that's all it is she's been a great car never really had anything go wrong expect it did throw a couple of alternator belts but I think I've fixed that problem I replaced the crankshaft pulley but won't know for sure till I can get it running anyway I'll let you know how I go with the relay.
