Rustproofing.
Hi Roger,
These are people's pride and joy so it's not nice to point out flaws, but photos do exist of new Jimnys with rust starting. Many have not see the first salted winter road. I've been looking at photos of G4 from launch and have seen the same sign's that I came across when I was looking for my new G3. I was shocked just how poor the rust protection was on the G3 compared to the vehicle manufacturers I was leaving behind. You need to make your own mind up, but if I was to get a new G4 it would be waxed before it turned a wheel.
Some photos from this site for those that don't do FB.
The brown stains are not wax and these are new low milage vehicles. One small area, three rust patches starting.
Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

All it does is, to cover up the rust and in some cases allow it to propagate behind the coating, which can make matters worse by effectively sealing in moisture. Our last Land Rover was "Dinitrol'd" and when l inspected it after a few years, rust was propagating behind the coating and large flakes of rusty steel could be scraped off.
I would use a spray grease or product such as XCP which is clear, and doesn't harden.
l looked under our 2020 Jimny and it does seem well protected as standard, but l will empty a few tins of XCP over the body mountings and inside the chassis rails.
I struggle to see how rust would continue to spread if it was hermetically sealed by an oil or wax. Rust needs oxgyen to progress.
However slapping a "coating" over serious rust probably wouldnt help much. Too far gone.
Ive read so much about corrotion, and many rust proofing companies benefit from blinding you with sciencen in order to make you believe it cant merely be done by the average man, and requires a booking in at there facility. But in saying that some of them seem fairly reasonable considering the time it takes to complete.
If youve got a new jimny, choose a dry warm day and slap a load of lanolin on it. No mess, no oils, no staining. Just a natural product that will seal your chassis in natural sheep oils.

I'm becoming tempted to doing it myself, mostly due to the lack of interest by those I've contacted for a quote. How did you raise yours to get underneath Andy?Andy2640 wrote:

Howdy buddy!
I put my jimmers on 6 ton axle stands, and added wheel ramps and wooden blocks just to be extra safe. I then slid under and spent the day underneth with a documentary running on my mobile. It was actauly really fun, the lanolin is lovely to work with, and is safe for eyes and ingestion.
A fully thorough job can be achieved with enough roon to get underneath.
