Great to get the kit up on the roof and keep it out the way; any reasons not to are honestly negligible.

I do laugh when I see Jimny's filled to the brim in the back with two adults stuffed in the front - it's like they are using the Jim to move house :P

Any opportunity to not play Tetris in the back of the small Jimny is a bonus.

I just like to be prepared to help myself or others.
If I, on my way to work, see someone who need a tow or what not, then I pull over.

When on camping/fishing trips it is me and my three kids in the Jimny. So there is so not much space left but the roof.

The roads that we travel are narrow and bumpy. The speeds on these roads vary. But mostly walking and jogging speed.
But we get to where we are going.

I have not been troubled when branches gets stuck in my old roof rack. I just bring out my saw.

@Keithy

As you might see in this picture the roof is not a flat surface on the Jimny. Why would I weld crossbars laterally between the legs?
For the looks?

Because at the minute your legs are unsupported laterally from the inside and with sufficient dynamic load will twist the side bars and cause a fatigue failure. It needs cross bars between the legs at the main hoop level so that the legs are continuous over the width.

@Lambert

I would rather reinforce, than add two crossbars.

Keep in mind that the boxes are a part of the supporting? (do not know if it's the right word) construction.
The boxes are bolted to the frame with 6 pcs of M6 each.

The frame is built with 25x25x2 steel. And I have reinforced the four legs with pieces of 15x5mm steel.
