It's a company car. So if that's how they want to do it that's how it's going to happen. If it weren't it would have been a very modified 1.6 years ago.

This sounds like a double problem - a pain to find. What would come to my mind:
- Filling the cooling system when the front wheels are higher than the rear wheels and the radiator cap is the highest and turn the heater on
- Check the two way valve that lets water into the expansion bottle and lets cooling liquid back if there is a vacuum in the cooling system
- Check the visco clutch
- Check the thermostat

The radiator cap, thermostat and viscous clutch are all less than a year old and in correct operating condition. Bleeding is not the problem here as the coolant is barely hot enough to expand before it is being displaced and the volume displaced is far in excess of the normal heat expansion one would expect even from boiling coolant. The issue is much deeper.

It does not sound like trapped air unfortunately, that's too much fluid movement. Time for a pressure or CO2 test on the cooling system.
On a positive note a failed head gasket is not that big a job, and if combined with a new clutch "whilst they are in there" it should result in all problems fixed. Personal I would rather fix the head gasket than change the heater core, but that's just me.
Good luck, hope it's sorted soon.
