Gen4 first service.....or, rather, ...not...

Result - well done.
But why couldn't the garage have found some oil, they know the warranty requirements?
Feels like they couldn't be bothered.
Maybe a sign to try a different garage for any future work?

This thread has got me interested, especially as I own a Gen4 Jimny, which has a while to go before its first service. However I had not noticed the requirement to replace front and rear differential oil at the first service.
The genuine Suzuki part no. is 99000-22B30-000. This is Ecstar (Suzuki Super) gear oil. Its specification is 75W-85 fully synthetic. It is hard to track down its GL number but it seems to be GL5 which is best for differentials but not to be used in gearboxes.
I'm sure the dealers will come up with a variety of acceptable substitutions if they cannot obtain the Ecstar lubricant. I will be pressing for my dealer to obtain the exact same specification, if not necessarily the Ecstar product, at the first service. My reason? The service schedule does not call for a further replacement of this lubricant at any future point. If it's going to stay in there for a very long time, it might as well be the right stuff.
Mind you, my feeling about the lubricants used on this Jimny, particularly the engine oil, is that they are chosen to obtain tiny improvements in the disappointing emissions figures and will make no difference in real driving conditions.

Great thread, seems to get people fired up. Thin engine oil for better fuel economy and as a result - emissions. Some manufacturers claim easier starting with 0w oils but I suspect this is to throw you off the scent. The whole thing reminds me of an old mechanic I worked with when I was serving an apprenticeship. He said, (while peering into an auto-box) "Well..... Any oil's better than no oil."
Different times and no special analytical insanitizers in sight.
