Buying a Jimny was created by ColinTheViking
Hi all,
I'm currently searching for a Jimny and have stumbled on 2 that look good. The first is a 2007 with 49k miles (£3800) the second is a 2008 with 67k miles (£4150). I am a little confused as the 2007 one has all these extras like side steps, black bumper trim and chrome grill etc. I'm not actually a fan of the bumper trim and chrome grill so I was wondering if this was stuff that pops out etc? The second car doesn't have any of these extras and I do prefer that but its a tad more expensive and has way more miles so I was wondering if i get the 2007 model will I be able remove all that factory extra stuff? I was also wondering if you would know if it could indicate that the car is actually better engine wise etc as I have seen there are all these extra models eg. JLX, JLX+, SZ3, JLX Mode and so on.
Here is an example of the closet I could find however this example doesn’t have the side steps.

Hi,
Not sure I have seen any bumper trim so not 100% sure how they would be attached. The standard vehicle has no provision for trim on the bumpers, so if it's in a spot with no trim (look at 2008) it's likely to be stick on. Side steps just unbolt or get ripped off when you go off-road :woohoo:
Grill parts can be swapped or just sprayed a colour you like, as could the bumper trim if you don't want to remove it.
Engine and gearbox wise, assuming they are hardtops, both have identical engines Etc M13A
RUST is the deciding factor, get under both and have a good look at the condition, milage is not so important. Also check everything works on the 4x4 system as it should, hubs engage etc.
Both sound good though.
Mike
Edit - just seen picture, trim is likely to be attached with double sided foam tape. Have a look for a small gap between trim and body, usually grey tape can be seen.

Just to add both these years are subject to a potential gearbox bearing failure which can be up to 7 or 8 hundred pounds to rectify. Once past 2009 the boxes are better so it might be worth factoring the repair into your budget.
