Hi all,
I have found a Jimny not too far from me which sounds promising.
2006, owned from 2007, FSH, 97,000 miles, MOT Oct 2020.
Below is the MOT report and all has been repaired at a cost of over £1,000.
Any thoughts/advice. I do intend to get underneath for checking
Repair immediately (major defects):
Nearside Rear Vehicle structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))
Offside Rear Vehicle structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))
Nearside Front Integral body structure or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of a body mounting (6.2.2 (d) (i))
Offside Front Integral body structure or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of a body mounting (6.2.2 (d) (i))
Offside Front Wheel bearing rough when rotated (5.1.3 (b) (i))

I would say it all depends how well it's been repaired
Done to last or done to get an mot
Any pictures of repairs being worked on
If it's been thick under sealed stay way clear of it
What's the asking price

Yes, I echo Jack's thoughts. The wheel bearing is nothing but the rust could have been just plated with the rust still under it, which will continue to spread.
If it's been cut right out and new sections fabricated and welded in, then great, go for it. How can you tell though? That's why Jack suggests the photos of the restoration rather than a quick repair.
Can you contact the company that did it and ask what they did?
The other thing to think about with a Jimny of this era is the gearbox. Some, not all, suffered with bearing wear and a new type of bearing was used from some point in 2009. Has it had a gearbox rebuild at some point? If not, if has got to this mileage and I assume it is quiet, so perhaps it's a good one.
As has been asked, what's the price?
