It failed on an excessively corroded offside brake pipe but the swivel joints were urgent advisories. So it seems that there is quite a bit of money to spend on the old girl! Thanks for your help

But is there any oil leakage on the swivel ball
A rusty swivel is normal on a Jimny
If it's very rusty just wire brush it

One of the swivel balls was dry and the other was covered in grease.

At that point in time the wet swivel is the one to change the bearings in and the other if it has no vertical play in it just needs a scrub with a wire brush to make it look more presentable, what it doesn't need to be is a mirror finish because the large seal that runs on it is just a dust and mud seal to keep debris out not an oil seal to keep grease in. Sounds like the garage test centre is unfamiliar with the Jimny and what is normal for them.

Need a mechanic who knows Jimnys. Any suggestions in the Brecon area?? Ideally I would like my jimmy to be made into a proper off roader like many of the photos on this site. Just don't know where to go.
