Have you considered going to 16" wheels
My BFG's are 225 75 16 with a 3" lift
I found a little more tyre choice for 16's

I hadn't thought of that in all honesty I'll have a little look at that.
I guess my quandary is I want a fairly aggressive tire but dont want to be branded as someone who has no regard for the lanes and there up keep as I'm not

I'll just throw my usual pint of gasoline on the fire by saying that here in Norway we tend to like to go wide, especially on the light weight cars.
On my SJ I had 325/60-15 tires. Worked brilliantly for me as the /60 profile made it better handling on-road as well.
It is the tires in my avatar picture.
No way they would fit my jimny unless I cut massively.

I would like better to have wide tires than to mess up the crawl ratio too much with too tall tires.. I would stay with the smaller diameter with 1.3 engine and original gearing. 235's is just for show unless you gear down and/or go 1.6.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.

Mole wrote: Completely get that and think your right I'd be happy to go for a less aggressive tire but do want a decent side lug do you have a tire you could recommend that would be a half way house

Did you get anything sorted in the end?

Lots of good tyres out there these days.

Not as yet but think I will probably got for the insa turbo sahara the reviews seem pretty good plenty of grip without tearing up lanes but it's on the back burner atm as had to fork out some bits on my other car. But am still open to others
