If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

SLDA stands for smartphone linkage display audio, but the unit is what Bosch call the LCN, (low cost navigation)
The TMC has stopped working (press the disaster warning triangle icon on the left of the nav screen)- no TMC data. ("I knew it- the LCN is broken already" I thought). Before running to suzuki, I fired up the LCN in the [strike]Renault[/strike] Nissan, and it had no data either!
Apparently, the data is encoded into the RDS signal on Classic FM, I thought the SLDA/LCN has two FM tuners, one is permanently on Classic FM, the other is the one that you listen to but I might be wrong, possibly the fist is also used to scan the alternative frequencies for the current station so it can switch to the strongest transmitter.
The data is provided by INRIX, who no doubt are gnashing their teeth at the slow revenue stream, as AFAIK, the unit manufacturers buy a lifetime licence and decryption key for each unit sold, so there is no lucrative subscription robbing us blind.
Here in the Midlands, Smooth FM provide a backup RDS-TMC service, tuning the radio to Smooth, and leaving it on for a minute soon filled up the TMC screen on the [strike]Renault[/strike] Nissan, and the same for the Suzuki except they weren't sorted by distance like they should be....
A quick check on the position info (press the cogwheel on the right edge of the screen and select it) reveals zero satellites, and the thing is dead reckoning again.
What these units do, is when they don't have at least a 3 satellite fix is remember where the last good fix was, and use the vehicle speed transducer, and the compass to guess where you are now, and map to the nearest road, so you don't usually notice, until you look at the map and you are on a road about 2 miles from where you know you are.
I took the opportunity to test my eBay £5 external gps aerial, by whipping the SLDA out and with the £5 aerial on the roof, it gets 10 satellites, and a nice solid fix, sorting the TMC data by distance like it should.
I don't know what is wrong with the RDS-TMC data, I can't find any info via t'interweb, except that it not working is quite common...
Bit of a ramble I suppose, but if you are bored, and have a GEN4, keep an eye on the number of satellites it is receiving. I found with the [strike]Renault[/strike] Nissan, that it works beautifully in the Winter, but poorly in the Summer.

Save yourself the pain and go Android auto, traffic updates over 4G and maps that are continually updated for free. I tried the inbuilt satnav once, never again.

That involves plugging my 'phone into the hole used by the usb stick doesn't it?
Besides, I was forced to pay hundreds and hundreds of pounds for the SLDA (because Suzuki won't do a poverty spec auto) I want it to work!

It does, but you won't need the usb stick, as all your media can be on your phone
