CB radio in Gen4 was created by Gadget
Considering buying a CB setup for my Gen4. It's something which I have no genuine need for, but that I've lusted after on and off since I was about ten years old (blame Smokey & The Bandit).
Any thoughts on location of transceiver or how to get the aerial into the car (cutting holes in my baby a very last resort!)?
Current thoughts are to get a Midland M-5, as it means the main box can be tucked out of sight, with no/minimal damage to interior trim, with the display on the mic, which could be located on one of the fake hex bolt locations on the dash. Power from the front 12v socket.
Would pair that with a mini orbitor aerial on a gutter mount but no idea how to safely get the wire into the cabin.
All bits and bobs I'm looking at are on the Thunderpole website.
Yes, I'm bored and looking for next project for the car :silly:

Have a look at a ‘CRT mini one’, worlds smallest cb. Fits pretty much anywhere.
You can run the aerial wire out of the back door hinge side and just let the rubber door seal squash it rather than drilling holes

You could do what I have done for an alternative antenna. Fit separate DAB & GPS antennas (very cheap to do). Then fir a CB aerial on the roof in place of the original. I find it works just as well for the FM reception. I believe you can then get a splitter to have it connwx8to both CB & FM radio.

When we talk about CB in the UK, it's just the 27mhz FM flavour that we're referring to.
I think the UHF service you mention is probably PMR446, which is a very popular license-free service, but has a number of key restrictions - limit of 500mw transmit power and you're not permitted to use detachable antennas, so almost entirely for handhelds, not for vehicle installs. It's great for lots of situations (I use PMR446 with friends when we go skiing), but 27mhz CB is more popular for in-car offroad use.
