I dismantled my belt mechanism, cleaned them properly, lubed up everything and tightened springs and they were great for about as long as it took to pronounce "friction".
I did just like some youtube instruction video told me.

If this is MOT problem you are better off spraying them with silicone spray as it will last for a couple of days until the MOT is done.

I think my problem got worse when i got my 2004 leather seats. old seats was 2005 fabric seats.
annoying when you slam the car door behind you and you get the wrong feedback sound..

Guessing that the spring just gets weak when you tighten them allready weak from use and age..

Am I right in thinking there is too much friction at the top location. I seem to remember doing something with the plastic up there and opening the slot to reduce dragging.

A bit of gentle file action you mean? Has to be worth a look.

I tried filing the hole bigger on the Range Rover.

It made as much difference as cleaning the belts did to yakuza's car.

For retracting seat belts, check that excess webbing is wound into the retracting unit with the mechanism fastened and the seat unoccupied. Check this with the seat base set in its rearmost position.
Some types of retracting belt might need manual help before they retract. If a temporary device is fitted to prevent retraction, you can remove it.

Mine have passed MOT like it for years....

(And from May it is a MAJOR FAIL if the seat base won't adjust and lock in all the positions, even if it was/will positively lock in the one you use and you are the only driver :pinch: )

I don't think what I did was filing as that will roughen the surface. I am sure I used sand paper strips working from coarse to start with to shift material through to super fine to get back a smooth surface. Also the edges of the belt grip too. I can't be sure as it is a good few years ago.
