Cheap tyre options? was created by Dazv
Hi all, I'm in need of some more information from you knowledgeable blokes!
After doing a few things on my new(to me) Jim the next thing I want to save up for are some sort of tyres which will allow me to take her off road mainly green lanes near me. What sort of tyres would you guys suggest and roughly how much? I'm working on a tight budget so will probably be part worn anywhere online that sells cheap used tyres?
Thanks again guys in advance much appreciated

Camskill tyres do a pay monthly plan. I don't think you will get any part worn tyres anywhere unless ebay have any. Just for the peace of mind buy new if you can

Part worn tyres are generally a false economy. The trouble with part-worn off-road tyres is they need deep tread to work off-road. I sold a set of BFG mud terrains with 7mm of tread left. They were still perfectly serviceable tyres with probably 30,000 miles of road life left in them, yet the off-road performance had deteriorated greatly from new, when they had about 15mm of tread.
The other issue is age. Those tyres were 4 years old when I sold them. I've seen similar tyres in sizes/tread patterns that haven't been available for at least 10 years being sold with 'plenty of life left in them'. You really don't want to be spending money on, or driving around on, 10+ year old tyres!
I'd hunt around for a good deal on some decent quality tyres rather than try to save money on the things that make the biggest difference to how your truck will perform off and on road. I paid £400 for my first set of BFG KM2s and sold them for £200. So it cost me £200 for 45,000 miles/4 years of daily off-road use, green laning, pay and play sites etc. That's pretty cheap in my book.

I can recommend the Hankook Dynapro MTs, got them from Mytyres for about £85 a tyre, can't remember exactly how much but included shipping too.
I personally wouldn't use part worns, unless absolutely no choice, as you have no idea of the history and how they've been treated. At minimum I would be looking at remoulds, but again for me, as the tyre is the only contact with the ground/road I will always fit new tyres.

There's also the Kumho mud terrains that are quite good and cheap in comparison to others.
Remoulds have their place but wear quickly for daily use.
