I'll change all the oils, that makes sense. And do a top to bottom corrosion check and treat. The tyres are good so I'll leave that for now. There's a wobble at about 45mph that reading here tells me it's likely the kingpin bearing - looks an easy fix.

I'd eliminate easier fixes before tackling a kingpin bearing.
Have a look round the front wheels to see if there are any missing balance weights. Anything suspect, get the front wheels balanced. Remove the front wheels and make sure all wheel and hub mating surfaces are flat with no crud stuck on them. Sometimes thats ignored by tyre fitters and it can cause wobble.
If you do the kingpin bearings, do it before refilling the diff with new oil.

standard jimny - for now

A new horn is a good idea. Also make sure you can get the spare off the back before you really need to.

The vibration occurs specifically at 45mph which I understand is classic bearing wobble speed. But you're right, it could be something simpler. I'm going to take a day to mess about with the Jimny soon - remove back seats, check stuff - and I'll have a good look. I'm preoccupied with a 1970s scrambler engine rebuild at the moment... Idiosyncratic vehicles must be my thing.

New horn? I'd like something really loud... Horns are under used in the UK I reckon.

You'd like my train horns but there is no real room in a Jimny for the horns, compressor and tank.;)

Did you notice the Wiki section on this web site? Look at the top site menu "Jimny information (wiki)".

You will find much potentially interesting material there ... especially regarding modifications - from small "comfort" ones (like adding rear speakers) to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle style ones.
