It looks promising to me! Maybe a bit wider than the current Jimny but otherwise very similar, so hopefully equally good off road. Also seems like it will be easily modified.

It looks great to me as well, I am glad they haven't followed the crowd with the soft off road option which can just about jump a kerb. One big improvement they could make is to use the AllGrip system in normal mode with a low 4x4 transfer box. I always found it was my Jimnys achilles heal that it was rear wheel drive when not in 4x4. It made winter driving hit and miss when to use the 4x4 system when on tarmac.

I must admit I have come to like permanent 4x4 systems or at the very least a selectable that can be left in four wheel drive.furo wrote: One big improvement they could make is to use the AllGrip system in normal mode

As long as it is more reliable than it was in our vitara,15000 miles, wouldn't go in and out of low range unless it felt like it,traction control turning on and off its self which being linked to abs did the same with that, was not impressed, jimny at a year old and 5500 miles is not looking to promising either, build quality is going down hill and if new jimny is going to be made in India don't have a lot of faith in it

The assumption seems to be that this new model will be unveiled at the Tokyo auto show at the end of this month (Oct 27 - Nov 5). Hopefully most of our speculation will end and they will provide some of the real specifications.

As one of our main correspondent in the general vicinity will you be attending Tokyo on our behalf to get us some first hand intelligence on the new Jimny? (Yes I am joking and I am aware that Manila and Tokyo are not exactly near each other)
