The axles would be worth a shot if you want to run bigger tyres and gain some width but every thing else would be too heavy. I'd look into lighter running gear. There are very few light weight diesels out there (compared to a stock jimny engine) and even fewer have attempted to fit them to a jimny (1.7 Isuzu being most common). From what I've read on those that have fitted xud or pd engines to samurais it's definitely affected the handling some have considered it worth the trade off others not so much. A manual jimny engine and gearbox weighs in around 120kg dripping wet. An xud or pd engine weighs considerably more on its own. I've not no idea what a 200/300tdi weighs

Hi thank you for your response the reason that I want to use the ruuning gear is that it will take the weight of the engine / gearbox and Im thinking that transfer box wouuld be a good move to use the landy one as the susuki one is vey light duty. do you still not think using the whole lot that it would affect the haddeling I was thinking that stuffing all that heavy duty kit would make an awsome go any were kind of all terrain viehicle im thinking of useing springs steering rack shortend propshafts and so on your views are very important to me at this designing stage

Part of what makes the jimny is its light weight, I can understand the axle swap but I'm struggling with why the landrover engine/gearbox? There are much lighter and just as powerful if not more so engine gearbox combo's out there. As for the transfer case, swap the jimny one for an sj410 one or splurge (well worth the money imo) on a rock lobster (remanufactured sj410/sj413 hybrid transfer case)

Making a Jimny into a land rover is pointless. It will be just as wide as a land rover, 90pc as heavy as a land rover, have the turning circle of a land rover, be even less reliable than a land rover and be a massive amount of time and money to make. If that's what you want then I would look forward to the build thread as a technical exercise but as a practical off road car i would encourage you to put some mud tyres on the stock Jimny, go to the nearest off road centre and get some focused tuition from someone who understands the attributes of a Jimny and learn how to drive past land rovers, because a Jimny in the right hands is an epic weapon for upsetting land rover fan boys.

I agree with 11/60. It's a great engineering exercise but a lot of work to make something that won't be very special. It will basically be a Defender with a Jimny body. Heavy, slow, wide, not very manoeuvrable...

I'm sure if you sort the gearing to match your tyres, buy stronger shafts and maybe fit a 1.6 you will find the Jimny on your current tyres is more than a match to any Landrover.
