My legs are not too good so cannot get down properly to look! Is there some sort of heat shield on the rear box as mine seems to have terminal tin worm? What purpose does ot serve. TIA John T

Yes there is, John, a heat shield of sorts, and renowned for rotting away.
Two years ago I removed the one on my wife's Jimny completely, passed the last two MOT's without issue, and the box is still going strong.
Never was able to see a downside to removing it....the upside is that now it never rattles!!!!

Mine almost fell off but I had to get above it to do the rustproofing. Same againon the Junior and TBH I think it is better with it off.
